The industrial areas of the city centre are blind spots in the social consciousness. They perform like cities within cities, self-ruled separate worlds behind concrete fencing. Their enclosed nature and the associations evoked by the functions they perform - machines, noise, dirt - mean that not many people are aware of the incredibly high potential they carry.

The Wrocław heat and power plant is not an exceptional case here. Located in a devastated but unusually charming part of the city, it needed a building which would play the role of a flagship reflecting the Client's status and aspirations. A decision on the adaptation of a closed down and flood-damaged institutional canteen was made. Here, among a jungle of tubing systems, lines and conveyor belts, the elegant, modern building of the Training and Information Centre was to be built.

One of the main objectives of designers concerned the introduction of clear partitions spatially organizing new utility functions in the existing structure. Consequently, the building, along with its environment, was divided into various modules, which separate individual functions. One of the key elements of the spatial arrangement is an axis connecting both entries, emphasized by a long orange wall. It separates an open general-use space from closed conference rooms, from which we can enter a wooden terrace and a garden arranged into sections. The hall zone penetrates into the exterior of the building through the glazed façade. Inside there are four work boxes located, which facilitate and complement the conference function. Aluminium panels of a cold natural colour matching the surroundings were contrasted with timber, which prevails in the interior design.
